Reporting needs vary from simple tabular data to financial statements to highly interactive reports. This course teaches the fundamental and advanced report design techniques to meet almost any reporting need. The course begins with a session that will help users create and publish their first report in less than two hours. The next three sessions build upon that foundation and teach report parameterization, design techniques with subreports, report functions and calculations, and conditional formatting.

There are no Pentaho Training prerequisites for this course. The course is designed for students with a strong understanding of SQL and relational
database. A basic knowledge of web-applications is also suggested. The final session requires a strong understanding of HTML and HTML authoring techniques.

The Pentaho Report Design Techniques course has a number of “homework” exercises that also require you to have Pentaho installed on your machine. In general, your machine must meet the following requirements (you can also verify your system against the Compatibility Matrix: List of Supported Products topic in the Pentaho InfoCenter :
Depending on the course, students may be provided with an electronic course manual. Printed manuals are not provided for online courses. When an electronic manual is provided, students are strongly encouraged to print the course book before class begins.

Getting started In this module, students explore the foundational skills involved in designing and publishing reports with Pentaho Report Designer and the Pentaho BI platform. A detailed demonstration of the features of the Pentaho User Console is included. In addition, this module covers connecting to various Data Sources, adding data fields to a report, adding lines, headings, column titles, and other cosmetic enhancements. |

Designing reports This module teaches the skills necessary to design high-fidelity reports with a variety of charts, hyperlinks, sub-reports, and bands using the Pentaho Report Designer. Students also create a report with multiple report objects and multiple queries to achieve a “dashboard look” for the report. |
