The Pentaho BI Suite exposes a lot of functionality to maximize the return on your investment in business intelligence. This session
explores the use of calculations, functions, and expressions to dynamically change the formatting of data, calculate data, and change
the visibility of report content. The goal is the creation of reports that increase their value by dynamically responding to the data.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this session, you should be able to:
- Author complex and dynamic reports using the Pentaho Report Designer
- Employ calculations and grouping techniques within a report
- Include traffic lighting in reports
- Conditionally hide or show elements within a report
- Use parameters within calculations, functions, and expressions
Who Should Attend:
This session is designed for report authors and designers with a strong understanding of SQL and relational database concepts.
Session Prerequisites:
There are no Pentaho Training prerequisites for this session; however, the session builds upon the skills and concepts of the
previous sessions of the Pentaho Report Design Techniques course. The session is designed for students with a strong understanding
of SQL and relational database concepts. A basic knowledge of web-applications is also suggested.
Session Requirements:
Students will need a Microsoft Windows XP or Vista computer with a 1GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, and a DVD drive, and 750 MB of available hard
drive space in order to practice the skills taught. We suggest the computer have at least 1.3 GHz CPU, 2 GB of memory, and 1 GB of
available hard drive space. Make sure you have a text editor such as Notepad; you may need it for some of the exercises. This session
will also required a broadband Internet connection, the use of a modern web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or
Mozilla Firefox 2.0, and the installation of a player to view and participate in the class.
