Pentaho Names Tom Leonard Executive Vice President of Business Development

25-Year Veteran Brings Fortune 1000 Connections to Accelerate Pentaho Adoption

Orlando, FL, April 21, 2010 –– Pentaho Corporation, the open source business intelligence (BI) leader, today announced it has named Tom Leonard as the company’s new executive vice president of worldwide business development, where he will be responsible for formalizing strategic relationships with target accounts across all of Pentaho's channels inclusive of Global 1000 customers, OEM/ISV's, system integrators, and technology alliance partnerships.

Mr. Leonard came to Pentaho from OpenSpan, a provider of desktop productivity improvements for Global 2000 companies, where he served as the executive vice president of worldwide sales. Prior to OpenSpan, he was an early employee at JBoss. Joining as the vice president of worldwide channels, he created JBoss’s channel programs and formalized strategic, revenue-producing relationships with HP, Unisys, Novell, CA, McKesson, Dell, NCR/Teradata, NEC, NRI, and many other industry leaders. Later, as vice president of business development, he formalized JBoss’s National Accounts Program with Fortune 1000 companies, including AT&T, Disney, ADP, Intuit, and Best Western Hotels. He was also strategically involved in the $420 million acquisition of JBoss by Red Hat in April 2006. Earlier in his career, Leonard was senior vice president of OEM/ISV sales at Bluestone Software, where he played a key role in the $450 million acquisition of that company by HP.

“Bringing Tom to Pentaho is a huge win for the company,” said Richard Daley, founder and CEO of Pentaho. “We have tremendous products and a vital industry message around Agile BI that enable developers and business users to work together to create BI applications faster than ever before. Now, we also have an established industry veteran with proven leadership skills, who will create the relationships and programs we need to significantly accelerate adoption on a global scale.”

“At Pentaho, ‘Agile BI’ is about an extremely exciting initiative to revolutionize how BI is deployed in companies, but it’s also an apt description of the company itself,” said Leonard. “From the start, this company has been extremely intelligent and agile in its approach to open source, in the way it develops products, and the way it’s grown and evolved as a company. I’m extraordinarily fortunate to join Pentaho at a time when it is poised for significant growth around the world.”
