Mobile World Congress, Barcelona — February 26, 2013 —
Delivering the future of business analytics, Pentaho Corporation today announced that Mobilethink, a company focused on Mobile Device Management and Device Intelligence, has implemented Pentaho Business Analytics as a tool to grow its new business development opportunities and turn leads in customers. Analyzing the vast wealth of data, Mobilethink was able to gain five mobile operators as new clients in only six months.
With Pentaho, Mobilethink is able to give mobile operators an eye-catching and detailed answer to the question “what is in for me?” and demonstrate the value of its Device Management services in hard numbers. The company offers mobile operators a 3-5 month trial license during which they analyze its campaign effectiveness using a mash-up of the anonymous operator data including information on call records, network data usage, information on devices in the network and Mobilethinks own data - including 170 different device capabilities.
One customer, an African operator, discovered through Mobilethink’s service that 32 percent of the devices in its network had 3G capabilities but were not yet using data services. After Mobilethink ran a specific campaign to promote 3G data services based on Pentaho data, the operator increased its revenue from these services by 12 percent. It also measured increases of 10 percent of 3G data traffic volume and 9 percent new subscribers. This proof helped Mobilethink to win the African operator as a customer.
Following a review of Pentaho, QlikView and Tableau Software, Mobilethink chose Pentaho Business Analytics for its extensive analytics and visualization capabilities. It runs Pentaho on a Linux/Debian operating system, with a Tomcat/Java application server using MonetDB, a column-store database. The dataset for each client reaches up to 15GB, adding up to 200 GB in total.
In the future Mobilethink plans to embed Pentaho into its own analytics tool to offer as-a-service to its clients, enabling them to run real-time analysis and drill-down into complex data sets.
"We use Pentaho as a pre-sales tool to analyze a mash-up of our data and operators’ data to prove the success of our services during a trial period for potential customers”, said Magnus Møller Petersen, CTO Mobilethink. “Pentaho delivered us the analytical power and the visual eye-candy to better tell our story which helped us winning five new customers over the last six month."
“Being able to extract the wealth of information hidden behind the numbers is a huge opportunity for growing new business models and boosting sales, not only in telecommunications but in many industries,” explains Davy Nys, VP EMEA & APAC, Pentaho. “Mobilethink is an impressive example of how modern companies use analytics to create a competitive advantage.”
