Pentaho Data Integration 3.2 Delivers Cloud Deployment Enhancements; New Cloud Benchmark and Test Suite Establish a "Path to Cloud ETL" for Users
Santa Clara, CA – MySQL User Conference 2009 – Apr 21, 2009
NEWS SUMMARY
Pentaho Corporation, the commercial open source alternative for business intelligence (BI), today announced Pentaho Data Integration 3.2, a new release of Pentaho’s extract, transform, and load (ETL) tool with enhancements for cloud- and cluster-based ETL.
Pentaho Data Integration is already in production on the Amazon cloud supporting cloud-based data warehouses, and provides important cloud ETL features like data compression to minimize data transfer costs, and dynamic parallelism to support elastic, multi-server ETL configurations.
With Pentaho Data Integration 3.2, secondary ETL servers can now dynamically register with the master server, so that administrators can run any data integration job on an arbitrary number of cloud-based servers without manually configuring the connection to each cloud-based secondary server. This saves time and simplifies cloud ETL deployment for administrators.
The latest development build of Pentaho Data Integration 3.2 is available immediately as an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) for testing and benchmarking purposes. For more information on Cloud Business Intelligence, and for the location of the Pentaho Data Integration 3.2 AMI, please visit www.pentaho.com/cloud_bi.
Pentaho Partner Bayon Technologies has delivered a new white paper, “Data Integration: Scaling Out Large Data Volume Processing in The Cloud or On-Premise”, that provides test results of Pentaho Data Integration in a Cloud-based Cluster, along with sample data and tools to show users how to perform their own tests. As an example of the potential cost savings with cloud-based ETL, the paper shows Amazon EC2 costs of less than $6 to process a billion rows of data in one hour, compared to a multi-thousand-dollar up-front hardware purchase in a traditional on-premise model. For the white paper, which includes links to sample data and tools, please visit www.bayontechnologies.com. Pentaho and Bayon Technologies will also be delivering a web seminar on this topic on Tuesday, May 26 at 2pm eastern time. To register, please visit www.pentaho.com/cloud_bi.
QUOTES AND DETAILS
We’re combining cloud computing and commercial open source to give customers an option that completely transforms the economics of data integration and ETL,” said Richard Daley, CEO of Pentaho. “More and more of our customers and partners are incorporating cloud computing into their data warehousing strategies to scale up while reducing costs, and only Pentaho can deliver the same scalability without the high price of the traditional proprietary ETL offerings.”
“The typical end-of-month or season variability in data integration volume maps perfectly onto cloud computing's ability to scale up and down according to load,” said Bernard Golden, CEO of Hyperstratus, a consultancy specializing in virtualization and cloud computing. “Cloud computing can make data integration more efficient and more cost-effective, and Pentaho’s ongoing investments to streamline cloud deployment of their BI and ETL products put them in a great position to address the growing demand for cloud-based data warehousing solutions.”
Matt Casters, Pentaho’s Chief Architect for Data Integration and Founder of the Kettle open source project will be presenting “Cloud Computing With MySQL and Kettle,” Wed., April 22, at 11:55 a.m. in Ballroom D at the MySQL User Conference in Santa Clara, CA. Pentaho is also a Gold Sponsor and will have executive and technical staff at the conference. Pentaho staff will be exhibiting in booth 308. Pentaho staff will also be demonstrating integration with Pentaho Partner Kickfire, in the Kickfire booth 200.
