Leading Commercial Open Source BI Suite Now Supports Solaris on x86 and SPARC, Glassfish Application Server, MySQL Database
Orlando, FL Apr 29, 2008 - Pentaho Corp., the commercial open source alternative for business intelligence, today announced that
its flagship product line, the Pentaho Open BI Suite, has completed successful validation on the Solaris™ 10 Operating System
(OS) as well as Sun's popular GlassFish open source application server v2. These validations provide updated and expanded support
for Sun's entire infrastructure stack.
Leading organizations around the world leverage Pentaho's best-in-class open source BI capabilities to address a broad range of
business intelligence needs from reporting and analysis to dashboards, data integration, and data mining. As both an enterprise
systems and open source leader, Sun solutions have been a popular Pentaho deployment choice. By collaborating to validate their
solutions, Sun and Pentaho are providing peace of mind for organizations who want to achieve long-term enterprise BI success with
integrated, open, enterprise-class solutions.
"Compatibility and vendor relationships are important to enterprise customers," said David Stodder, vice president and research
director at industry analyst firm Ventana Research. "These integration efforts by Sun and Pentaho should make their combined
solutions even more attractive to organizations who want low TCO for business intelligence on reliable, integrated platforms."
For example, Flemish Traffic Center, a Belgian government agency, analyzes traffic patterns by gathering traffic flow data every
minute from more than 500 traffic sensors distributed across the country. They use Pentaho Data Integration on a four-CPU Sun
Fire™ server, adding more than two million rows a day to a warehouse whose largest fact table contains nearly three billion
records. Accor Hotels, the leading European hotel group with more than 4,000 hotels in nearly 100 countries, uses applications
based on Pentaho open source OLAP and data integration technology as part of managing its operations in Europe. Accor chose Sun
Fire™ servers running the UltraSPARC® processor to support large data volumes and parallel execution of data integration jobs.
The application was implemented by Sitel France (www.sitel.fr).
"Pentaho's commercial open source BI suite provides a compelling option for organizations who want to leverage their investments
in Sun technologies to deliver world-class BI applications at a low total cost of ownership," said Juan Carlos Soto, VP of global
market development and engineering at Sun Microsystems. "We're pleased to work with an open source leader like Pentaho to deliver
production-ready, compatible solutions for enterprise BI."
