Pentaho Announces Mondrian 2.2

New Graphical Design Environment Accelerates Deployment and Lowers TCO for Open Source OLAP

Orlando FL. - Oct. 12, 2006 - Pentaho Corp., creator of the world's most popular open source business intelligence (BI) suite, today announced Mondrian 2.2, the latest release of Pentaho's popular Mondrian OLAP project. The release features a new wizard-driven Pentaho Cube Designer enabling administrators to quickly design and deploy OLAP applications for multidimensional data analysis. It also includes numerous performance and scalability enhancements.

Mondrian allows business users to analyze data using multiple data points such as time periods, geographic regions, or product lines, and it supports a wide range of horizontal and vertical industry OLAP applications. The new Pentaho Cube Designer simplifies and expedites the analysis process by eliminating the need for administrators to use XML to create OLAP schemas. Instead, the wizard-driven graphical user interface walks administrators through the steps of connecting to relational data sources, defining analytical dimensions, and identifying measures for analysis. This lowers the total cost of ownership and also significantly expands the potential user base for Pentaho's best-in-class open source OLAP capabilities.

Mondrian 2.2 also contains enhancements designed to improve performance and scalability across various open source and proprietary databases and production configurations. The software now offers improved handling of large dimensions in Oracle databases as well as SQL optimizations for the MySQL database. It also provides enhanced caching of data and metadata to accelerate application performance when working with large data volumes.

Since its inception in 2000, Pentaho's Mondrian OLAP Project has become the world's most popular open source OLAP project, with a large and vibrant open source community as well as an extensive list of large-scale production OLAP applications around the world. For example, a major U.S.-based airline uses Mondrian to analyze and optimize per-seat profitability; numerous European financial institutions use Mondrian to analyze branch profitability and customer loyalty; and a U.S.-based casino uses it to optimize marketing campaigns and customer loyalty programs.

"Our new release of Mondrian is the latest achievement in our ongoing effort to build the strongest open source BI suite in the industry," said Richard Daley, CEO of Pentaho. "Pentaho continues to prove that a community-driven model delivers product evolution more quickly than proprietary software models, and this benefits end user organizations in everything from ease of use to low TCO."

Pentaho Cube Designer is available immediately under the free Pentaho Public License and works with Mondrian 2.2, as well as the open source and Professional Editions of the Pentaho BI Suite. Both modules are available today for download at www.pentaho.com/download/
