Tips for Evaluation Success
Please review the tips below to help you get started with your Pentaho evaluation:
+ How do I log into the User Console?
Go to Start -> Programs -> Pentaho Enterprise Edition -> User Console Login

Username: joe (ALL LOWER CASE)
Password: password (ALL LOWER CASE)
If you get an "Unable to connect" screen in your browser get in touch with an Evaluation Guru.

+ How do I log into the Enterprise Console?
First make sure the Enterprise Console Service is up and running by looking to see if you have a command window open that says "Start Enterprise Console". Additionally, verify that the last line of the command window has a line that states, "Console is now started. It can be accessed using http://[hostname]:8088 or http://[ipaddress]:8088" (as shown in the image below)?

If there is not a command window with the title "Start Enterprise Console" then start the console by performing the following:
- Go to Start -> Programs -> Pentaho Enterprise Edition -> Server Management
If there is a command window open but the last line does not display "Console is now started. It can be accessed using http://[hostname]:8088 or http://[ipaddress]:8088" get in touch with an Evaluation Guru.
Now that the Enterprise Console service has been started, Go to Start -> Programs -> Pentaho Enterprise Edition -> Enterprise Console Login

You will be prompted for a username and password. The username is admin (ALL LOWER CASE) and the password is the same password which you created during the installation.

NOTE:You will notice on the Server Status located in the upper left portion of the Enterprise Console (just to the right of the Pentaho logo) there is a number 5 next to the red x, this is normal and expected. This indicates that the email settings on the Pentaho BI Server which is used to email reports has not been configured yet. If you would like more information on this, go here after logging into the Pentaho Knowledge Base.
+ How do I connect to my data?
There are many versions of this questions, these include but are not limited to:
- How do I get my data into Pentaho?
- How can I report off my own data?
- How can I get my data in Analyzer?
- How can I make/build reports off my data?
- How can I connect to Oracle/Microsoft SQL Server/MySQL/Postgress/etc.
- How can I see my data in Pentaho?
This may seem like a simple and straight forward question, however, this greatly depends on what you are trying to accomplish during your evaluation. Pentaho provides Enterprise BI Software, which by its' very nature, uses advanced concepts. For example, there are many pieces and components that can be "connected" to your data, such as the Pentaho Business Intelligence Server, the Pentaho Data Integration Server, the Enterprise Console, Report Designer, Pentaho Data Integration, Pentaho Metadata Editor, and Pentaho Schema Workbench. Without knowing your business requirements this tip could guide you to "connecting to your data" using the wrong component(s). Due to this fact, it is best suited for a Pentaho Evaluation Guru to discuss and guide you to the appropriate solution. If you haven't already done so please get in touch with an Evaluation Guru.
