Mission Accomplished!

Today we bid a very fond farewell to our CEO Quentin Gallivan. If the mark of an executive’s success is leaving their company in better shape than they found it in, then Quentin certainly accomplished that mission. Quentin led Pentaho on a journey that saw the company transition from a commercial open source BI vendor aimed at the mid-market to becoming the leading big data analytics platform for the enterprise, and part of Hitachi Insight Group.

Although time has flown by, we were fortunate to have had Quentin’s intense drive, clear vision and rock-steadiness at the helm for six years - twice as long as the average CEO’s tenure. During that time Pentaho’s revenue grew by a whopping 600 percent while the number of employees grew from 75 to over 500.

Pentaho is now positioned for success in its next growth phase, which will be fueled in part by greater synergies with Hitachi. We have only just begun to tap into the huge wealth of people, skills, technology IP, customer base and economies of scale now at our disposal. We will work together to fulfill this new mission, reporting into Brian Householder, President and COO, Hitachi Data Systems.

Perhaps Quentin’s greatest legacy will be the values he instilled in us and our company culture: sticking to the plan; making collaborative, non-political, data-informed decisions; picking the right people for the right jobs, trusting them and holding them accountable. He also reminded us to celebrate our successes along the way, let our hair down from time to time and enjoy the fun of working in a company of smart, creative and ambitious people.

Thanks for taking us this far Quentin - now our new mission with Hitachi begins!
